How SteamSage works

SteamSage runs quietly in your browser. Here's what happens when you visit a Steam game page.

  1. 1

You visit a Steam game page

SteamSage only activates on URLs matching store.steampowered.com/app/* . On any other page — nothing happens, no data is collected.

  2. 2

The extension reads the AppID from the URL

Every Steam game has a numeric ID in the URL (e.g. Elden Ring is 1245620). That's the only piece of information SteamSage extracts from the page.

  3. 3

Our backend looks up prices across 15+ stores

We keep an up-to-date price index refreshed every ~2 hours from Steam, Eneba, Kinguin, Instant Gaming, GOG, Humble Bundle, Green Man Gaming, Fanatical, Gamivo and more. The extension asks our server for the cheapest in-stock offer for that AppID.

  4. 4

An overlay appears in the corner

A small card in the bottom-right shows the best price we found + the store selling it + the discount vs Steam's price. You can dismiss the overlay anytime with the × button.

  5. 5

    Click through to buy

If you like the deal, click See offer and you're taken directly to the store's product page. When the store pays us an affiliate commission on the sale, that's how SteamSage stays free for you — no cost added.
